The Light of the World


12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. 13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.

1. Unformed was being formed


14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

Why are we here? Why do we exist? What is this all about?

2. Dark to light


17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, 18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Acts 26:17-18


11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. 12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

The Problem of Gossip


The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

Proverbs 18:8


8 The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; they go down into the inner parts of the body.

Who does gossip hurt?

1. Gossip hurts the person it's spoken about.


28 A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.

Proverbs 16:28


2. Gossip hurts the listener.


A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

Proverbs 17:4  


3. Gossip hurts the speaker.


Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another: 10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

Proverbs 25:9-10


How do we control gossip?

1. Guard your ears.


15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

19 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

The Problem With Lying


How do you think God feels about lying?


22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

Proverbs 12:22


21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. 25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

What is the devil's plan?

  1. Satan wants to get you to lie.

  2. Satan wants to get you to lie to yourself.

  3. Satan wants to get you to live a lie


He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

1 John 2:4


The root reason most of us lie is because we don't completely trust God.


32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John 8:32


What is God’s plan?

We confess to God for forgiveness, and we confess to people for healing.


If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9 


16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much

Being Grateful In The Ordinary

Three enemies of the true reward.

1. The pillow: the seduction of comfort.

                        2. The shiny thing: the allure of constant distractions.

             3. The Towel: the perpetual temptation to quit.

1. You can bring a lunch.

2. You can offer a ride.

3. You can carry a towel

Being Bold In Your Witness

Satan is the Destroyer


Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Satan is the destroyer, who targets your will with pride.

Satan Is The Accuser


12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Satan is the accuser who attacks your heart with accusations.


17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.

Isaiah 54:17 


10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

When the devil talks to you about God, he lies.


When the devil talks to you about you, he accuses.


1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. And the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.

The devil is the accuser.


Jesus is your advocate.


1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
